The Money Wound: Signs, Roots and Money BlocksA Reiki activation for the scarcity body, and the beliefs about money you may have inherited
Your relationship with money began before you earned any.
What is the money wound?
The money wound is a popular term for the lasting hurt, fear or belief about money that forms early. It can come from what you saw, what you were told, or what your family went without, and it often runs quietly underneath the way you earn, spend, save and receive.
You may know it by other names: money blocks, financial trauma, scarcity, a fear of spending or a fear of running out. They point at the same territory from different sides. Where a mindset lives in your thinking, a wound lives deeper, in what your body learned to expect.
Money wound is an informal term and not a clinical diagnosis. This page is educational, and it is not financial, medical or mental health advice.
Signs of the money wound
These are some of the ways people describe it. You don't need to see yourself in all of them.
Fear of spending
Spending on yourself brings guilt, a flinch or a quick apology, even when you can afford it.
Fear of running out
A steady background feeling that there won't be enough, whatever the number in your account says.
Avoiding the numbers
Opening statements, checking balances or talking about money feels like something to put off.
Worth tied to earning
You feel valuable when you are producing and less so when you rest or receive.
Bracing for the catch
When something good arrives, part of you waits for what it will cost or when it will be taken back.
Struggle as proof
Money that comes easily feels suspicious, and money that comes hard feels earned.
Giving more than you keep
You are generous with others, and quietly stingy or uncomfortable when it comes to yourself.
Wanting without expecting
You let yourself want things, but you don't quite expect to get them.
Recognizing yourself here doesn't mean something is wrong with you. These patterns usually began as sensible ways to get through.
Money wound, money blocks and scarcity mindset
These terms overlap. Here is how I tend to think of each one.
| What it describes | Where it lives | |
|---|---|---|
| Money wound | The early hurt, fear or message about money that you absorbed | Your story and your body |
| Money blocks | The beliefs or habits that seem to hold you back around money | Your beliefs and habits |
| Scarcity mindset | A way of thinking that expects there not to be enough | Your thoughts |
| Financial trauma | A distressing experience around money that your body still carries | Your nervous system |
None of these is a diagnosis. They are different ways of making sense of the same experience, and you can use whichever one fits.
Where the money wound comes from
Rarely does one moment make a money wound. More often it builds from small, repeated messages: how a parent went quiet when the bills came, what was said about people who have money, which things were treated as a luxury, and whether it felt safe to want anything at all.
A parent is often the first model we see for provision and worth, which is why this wound so often sits next to the father wound and the mother wound. It can also come from a time of real loss, instability or going without, when a child had no way to change anything and the body learned to brace.
I wrote about my own version of this in a post about the father wound, the belief that wanting is allowed but receiving isn't guaranteed. You can read it in Healing the Father Wound.
Understanding where it began isn't about blame. Your family was likely working from a map they were handed too.
Why it lives in the body, and not only in the story
You can understand a money belief completely and still feel your chest tighten when you check your balance. That is because the wound isn't only an idea. If you learned early that there might not be enough, your nervous system learned to brace, and it may keep bracing long after the circumstances changed.
I call this the scarcity body. It isn't a character flaw, and it isn't a lack of positive thinking. It is an old, sensible response to something real. It also doesn't have to be the way your body works with money forever, though the shift tends to be gentle and slow.
To explore the body side, start with nervous system regulation, which maps fight, flight, freeze and fawn.
Where Aureya comes in
The money wound is a big part of why Aureya came into my work. Aureya is a frequency I channel through verbal Reiki activations, and the closest I can get in words is a feeling of being held and supported without having to earn a single thing.
For the money wound, that matters. Most of us were taught, one way or another, that support and abundance have to be earned. Aureya meets the body with the opposite message, and a few of my activations are built specifically around it.
If you want to feel it before you read more, The Aureya Field is a three-part experience: a short Manifesto and two channeled Reiki activations. You can also read what the Aureya frequency is, or meet the Oversoul of Aureya, the conscious presence that carries the frequency.
Where Reiki and verbal Reiki fit
Reiki is a gentle practice of energetic support, and many people experience it as deeply restful. I'm not claiming it treats or cures anything. I offer it as a complement, a way to give the body a quiet space to settle.
Verbal Reiki
I use my voice alongside the Reiki, guiding you through imagery and somatic awareness while the Reiki is held.
Beyond affirmations
The work meets the body, the part of you still waiting for the other shoe to drop, instead of layering new words over an old belief.
New to Reiki itself? What Is Reiki? explains it plainly.
A free activation to begin with
The Scarcity Body is a Reiki activation I recorded for the money wound, for the body that learned to brace around money. It runs about 39 minutes and is free on my YouTube channel. Find a quiet spot and listen in a way that feels steady.

What My Father Couldn't Give
For the father wound and the money beliefs that can come with it.
Listen on YouTubeWhere to begin
Small places to put your attention, offered as reflection and not as a prescription.
- Write down what you heard about money growing up, in the exact words if you can remember them.
- Notice which of those sentences you still believe, and which you only repeat.
- Notice what your body does when you think about spending, saving or receiving, without trying to fix it.
- Tell the difference between caution that protects you and fear that is only old habit.
- Choose one small thing to receive this week without paying it back, such as a compliment, a favor or a rest.
If money is a source of real hardship or distress, a licensed trauma-informed therapist and a nonprofit financial counselor can offer support that goes beyond what a Reiki practice can. Reiki can sit alongside that care, never replace it.

The Ongoing Work
Walk it in the Temple of Mysteries
Temple of Mysteries is my ongoing home for this work, built on Inanna's descent. We move through the seven gates, releasing a layer at each one. Money tends to touch the first two, safety and worth. The shedding happens through verbal Reiki, in the company of a community walking it with you.
You also receive a library of every activation from my YouTube channel, plus member-only transmissions.

What is the money wound?
The money wound is a popular term for the lasting hurt, fear or belief about money that forms early, often from what you saw, heard or went without growing up. It is not a clinical diagnosis. It is a way of naming a pattern many people recognize in how they earn, spend, save and receive.
What are the signs of a money wound?
People describe fear of spending money, guilt when they receive, a steady feeling that there won't be enough even when there is, avoiding looking at their finances, tying their worth to what they earn, and bracing for a catch when something good arrives. You do not need to see yourself in all of them.
What is the difference between a money wound and money blocks?
Money blocks is the broader, more common phrase for any belief or habit that seems to hold you back around money. Money wound points to where it may have started, usually an early experience or a message you absorbed. Many people find they are two ways of describing the same pattern.
Is the money wound the same as a scarcity mindset?
They overlap. A scarcity mindset is usually described as a way of thinking, a habit of expecting not to have enough. The money wound is closer to the root of it, the experience underneath. I also notice it in the body, as bracing, which is why I call it the scarcity body.
Where does the money wound come from?
It can come from many places: a family that struggled or lived with sudden loss, a parent's stress or silence about money, messages you were given about what money says about a person, or going without at a time you could not do anything about it. Some people can't point to one cause, and that is okay.
Can a parent's money beliefs become mine?
Often they do. A parent is usually the first model we see for provision, worth and what is safe to want, and children absorb a lot without being told. That is part of why the money wound sits close to the father wound and the mother wound.
Can you heal the money wound?
I can't promise an outcome, and healing looks different for everyone. Many people find it helps to name the pattern, notice what the body does around money, and take practical steps as well. A licensed trauma-informed therapist or a financial counselor can offer support that goes beyond what a page like this can. Reiki can sit alongside that care as a complementary practice, never in place of it.
Can Reiki help with money blocks?
Reiki is a complementary practice that many people find deeply restful, and it can give the body a quiet space to settle around a subject that often feels tense. It does not treat or cure any condition, it is not financial advice, and it does not change your finances.
